It can be seen more as a process wherein your parental aptitude is evaluated by professionals. One of the most important aspects of this home study period is the interview process. This is where a child welfare specialist will sit down with you and ask you a series of questions. You must answer honestly during these interviews but don't be overly nervous or afraid. If you are unfit to have a child in your home, you will likely be rejected as a prospective adopter long before the interview process is finished. If you are up to the task, all you really need to do is be yourself and the agency will recognize that you are suited for the task in which you are attempting to pursue.

Another scary part of adoption home study is the "home visit". During this time, state officials will visit your house in order to determine whether your residence is suited for a child. During this time, you'll probably want to go ahead and get rid of anything that somebody might frown on. A good rule of thumb is to remove anything that you wouldn't want your mother to see. This includes pornography, an excess amount of booze, a bong, and anything else that is considered naughty. Also, if possible, try to show that you understand the concept of baby proofing and purchase some plastic stoppers to put into unused wall sockets.

Adoption home study is a necessary part in the adoption process but, with a little bit of elbow grease, you should be able to get through it with no troubles. Remember that the people inspecting your aptitude are simply doing their job. They are human beings too, even if your future rests in their hands. Try to become friends with these people. They'll be infinitely more understanding when they realize that you are a decent person who is just trying to take care of somebody. Above all else, remember to never lose your temper no matter how much you are pushed. This is like poison to the eyes of a welfare agent and you will most definitely get bad marks if you blow your top. Other than that, be honest, be yourself, and be cheerful. This adoption home study will be over before you know it.
